Overview

Beat My Best Runs ("the app") is an iOS app that reads your running workouts from Apple Health, calculates your personal best efforts at standard distances, and shows your progress in the app and in widgets. Your privacy matters — this policy explains exactly what the app touches, what stays on your device, and what (if anything) leaves it.

Short version: The app does not collect, sell, or share your personal information. Your health and workout data stays on your device. The app makes one network request to check whether a newer version is required, and that request does not transmit any personal data.

Data the App Accesses

Apple Health (HealthKit)

With your permission, the app reads the following data types from the Health app on your device:

  • Workouts (including running, walking, cycling, and other activity types)
  • Walking + running distance
  • Cycling distance
  • Heart rate
  • Step count
  • Workout routes (location samples associated with your workouts)

This data is used only on your device to:

  • Identify your runs and calculate personal bests at standard distances (e.g., 1K, 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon)
  • Display run details, pace, heart rate, and route maps
  • Power widgets and the in-app analytics view

This data is never transmitted off your device. It is not uploaded to a server, shared with third parties, or used for analytics or advertising.

You can revoke the app's access to Health data at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Beat My Best Runs.

Location

The app does not request location access directly. Workout route information is read through HealthKit only when you grant Health access. Routes are displayed on-device and are not transmitted off-device.

Notifications

With your permission, the app sends local notifications when you achieve a new personal best. These notifications are generated and scheduled entirely on your device. The app does not send push notifications from a remote server, and no notification content leaves your device.

You can disable notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → Beat My Best Runs.

Purchases (StoreKit)

The app offers an optional one-time "Pro" upgrade through Apple's in-app purchase system. Purchase processing is handled entirely by Apple. The developer does not receive your name, email, payment information, or any other personally identifying purchase information. Apple's privacy policy governs how Apple processes purchase data: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

Data Transmitted Off Your Device

The app makes one outbound network request: a version check.

  • Destination:The developer's app configuration service.
  • Method: HTTP GET
  • Purpose: Retrieve the minimum supported app version so the app can prompt you to update if you are running an outdated build.
  • What is sent: Nothing about you. The request contains no user identifiers, no health data, no device identifiers, and no query parameters tied to your identity.
  • What is logged: Standard HTTP server logs may transiently record the requesting IP address solely to serve the response. No identifiers are stored, correlated, or retained beyond what is needed to deliver the response.

No other network requests are made by the app.

Data Stored on Your Device

The app stores the following on your device only:

  • A cached copy of your computed personal bests (used to render widgets quickly), saved to an App Group shared container so the widget extension can read it.
  • App preferences in UserDefaults, including: distance unit (miles/kilometers), theme preference, and your notification opt-in choice.

This data lives on your device and in your iCloud device backups (per Apple's standard backup behavior). The developer has no access to it.

Third-Party SDKs and Analytics

The app does not integrate any third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or tracking tools.

The app relies only on Apple's own frameworks (SwiftUI, HealthKit, WidgetKit, StoreKit, UserNotifications, CoreLocation).

Children's Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices and Controls

  • Health access:Granted and revoked in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
  • Notifications: Granted and revoked in iOS Settings → Notifications.
  • Local data: Deleting the app removes all locally stored preferences and cached personal-best data. Your Apple Health data remains in the Health app, untouched.

Support Requests and GDPR

The app itself does not collect personal, identifiable information. However, if you choose to contact support through the support form, you will be asked to provide an email address so the developer can respond to your request. Your email address and support message are used only to handle that support request.

If you have used the support form and would like to request deletion of your support request information under GDPR or a similar privacy law, submit a new support request at https://jimmytruong.dev/apps/beat-my-best-runs/support with the subject GDPR deletion request. Include the email address you previously used so the request can be located and handled.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because the app does not collect your personal data, there is no app-generated server-side record to retain or delete. Support form submissions are retained only as needed to respond to and manage support requests, and deletion can be requested as described above. To remove all data the app stores locally, delete the app from your device.

International Users

The version-check service is hosted on infrastructure that may be located outside your country of residence. Because the request contains no personal data, no personal data is transferred internationally.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app's functionality. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notice or App Store release notes.
